Apple ditches Intel's microchips for inhouse silicon.

Tim Cook, the CEO of the Apple describe it as 'huge leap forward for the Mac.' On WWDC 2020 they announced this with a lot of new changes to iOS, iPadOS and more, but let’s focus on the new silicon they are going to making for their mac.

There have always been two big players for far too long when it comes to making processor for pc, Intel and Amd. Now, a third player is joining the game and they are going big. They showed a performance vs power consumption graph on WWDC 2020. They aiming their chip to give more performance while consuming less power, in another word, more power with longer battery life.

Performance x Power consumption graph.

They design their own silicon for their phones and iPad, and it is very impressive. Their iPad performance is as good as a lot of laptops and it is the best tablet you can buy by a big margin. iPhone can perform as good as top of the range android phones even though on the paper it looks like it's no match, while being more efficient. They are largely able to do this because they design their silicon specifically to their product with their software in mind. This cannot be said same thing for most of the android phone. We are most likely to see a similar story with their new upcoming macs with inhouse silicon in it.

Apple silicon-based mac will be released on end of 2020, so we will have to wait and see what it can do and can it beat Intel at their own game?
