How much better is the new 3000XT CPU

AMD is set to release on going Zen 2 architecture CPU on 7th July 2020 according to the Amazon's prouct page. Currently in UK amazon, only AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT is listed for pre-order at £499.9 in Amazon and all the specification are released for it as well. It is the successor of the Ryzen 9 3900X which has the 12 cores, 24 threads and base clock speed of 3.8GHz and boost clock of 4.6 GHz. The new 3900XT has excatly the same number of cores, threads and cache but CPU cooler is not included. The only thing different is the max boost clock speed, it is 100MHz faster, therefore makeing it 4.7GHz, which is still 100MHz slower than 10900K

The Performance 

The benchmark test carried out by the cpu-monkey shows there is a performance increase but not by significant amount. The test was performed with Cinebench R20 (the successor of Cinebench R15) single-core and multi-core.

Cinebench R20  (Single-core)

The single-core performence has increased by 1.98% but not enough to catch up with Intel's 10900K. It got 539 points and it is a difference of  1.5%. Something interesting was, Ryzen 7 3800XT performe equal to 3900XT getting 531 points as well and this is a performance increase of 4.32% from 3800X. This is quite good for gamer because when it comes to games single core performance matter alot, however newer games has started to favour multicore performance.

Cinebench R20 (Multi-core)

The multi-core performance has increased by 4.19% and it has scored better than latest Intel Core i9-10900K, which only score 6399 points. It is a performance difference of 16.87%.

The price

The price of the 3900XT on Amazon is £499.99, which is £30 cheaper than 10900K . However, when it is compared to the 3900X it is £129 cheaper, that is 26% cheaper and when you compare it to the roughly just over 4% performance jump. It is not very appealing to most people who wants to upgrade their gaming rig but it maybe enough for someone looking to build a PC.
